A Very Normal Panic
The whole crypto complex is trading scared. The Fear & Greed index has sat at 28 — squarely in fear — every day this week, and Bitcoin is worth roughly half what it was last October. A falling market breeds a craving for certainty, and nowhere does that itch bite harder than the hunt for a number: where will this or that token be in five years? On Solana, the honest answer is that nobody knows — it has climbed 148% over five years yet still trades 71% below its record, and a precise 2031 target is, as the piece puts it, astrology with charts. What actually decides its path is not a forecast but adoption: whether Visa, SoFi and the stablecoin projects settling quietly on its rails ever harden into real, fee-paying demand.
Bitcoin's own slump invites the same discipline. A 50% fall from October's $126,128 high looks like carnage up close, yet against its own record it is remarkably mild: the last four peaks gave way to drops of 77%, 84%, 85% and 93%. The rhythm behind those cycles is mechanical rather than mystical — roughly every four years the mining reward halves, throttling new supply, and April 2024's halving lined up almost exactly with last October's top. What's genuinely different this time is the plumbing: spot ETFs launched in January 2024 and now hold about 6% of every Bitcoin in existence, and the regulatory fog that shadowed earlier cycles has thinned. None of that removes the risk — a second leg down would be entirely in character — but it does turn a frightening chart into a familiar one.

Bitcoin has fallen 50% from its October peak, and if you bought near the top, it hurts. But panic is the wrong reflex. Zoom out: a 50% drop is not the end of Bitcoin — it is the mildest crypto winter the coin has suffered. Its last four peaks were followed by falls of 77%, 84%, 85% and 93%. What looks like a disaster up close is, by Bitcoin’s own violent standards, almost gentle.

Every headline satisfies an opinion. Except ours.
Remember when the news was about what happened, not how to feel about it? 1440's Daily Digest is bringing that back. Every morning, they sift through 100+ sources to deliver a concise, unbiased briefing — no pundits, no paywalls, no politics. Just the facts, all in five minutes. For free.
olana has jumped 148% in five years — and still sits 71% below its all-time high. That is crypto in a sentence: dizzying gains, brutal drawdowns, and no straight line. So where does the $43bn (~£32.1bn) token go in the next five years? The honest answer is that nobody knows — but any serious Solana price prediction comes down to one word, and it is not hype. It is adoption.

A market this jumpy turns everyone into a fortune-teller, which is odd, because the one honest forecast in crypto is that nobody has one. Bitcoin has shrugged off four worse falls than this, and Solana still can't tell you where it lands in five years. The charts keep changing; the crystal ball stays broken. — MJB
